PRIME is a professional development system for teachers and administrators, designed to increase teacher understanding of mathematics, through courses and accompanying resources.
PRIME is implemented through two types of strand-based courses; teacher courses, and facilitator courses.
Geometry Strand Courses for Teachers and for Facilitators are being held nationally. Please click here for the current course schedule.
Geometry Teacher Course:
- Helps teachers to build their own understanding of math content
- Introduces teachers to the PRIME Developmental Maps and Tools
- Shows teachers how to determine where students are in their mathematics understanding using the Developmental Maps
- Provides strategies to move students forward and to differentiate instruction
Who should attend:
K-8 teachers or 7-12 teachers
Course Length:
Two days
Training Delivered By:
A District Facilitator who has completed a PRIME Facilitator Course in the relevant strand or a Nelson Education Facilitator.
Resources:
One Geometry kit per participant.
Geometry Facilitator Course:
- Uses a "Train-the-Trainer" model
- Teaches facilitators how to train other teachers in their district
- Features in-depth training to develop expertise to share with peers
- Builds district capacity by giving facilitators the ability to deliver training to teachers within their districts
Who should attend:
Mathematics consultants, department heads, lead teachers, mentors, coaches, special education teachers, and key teachers with enthusiasm for lifelong learning in mathematics.
